If you are driving, please do not taste. Japan has a zero-tolerance drink-driving law.
The underground cellar can be visited freely; groups of 10 to 20 should book in advance. Both free tasting (eight wines plus one non-alcoholic drink, self-service) and paid tasting (three kinds for 500 yen, one for 200 yen) are offered. Drivers and under-20s may not taste. The Kaikomagatake Museum and Charmant Gallery adjoin the shop. Cash, credit cards and transport IC cards are accepted. Parking for 15 cars and one medium coach. The official site gives both 9:00 and 10:00 as the weekday opening time.
A winery established in 1963 in Hakushu, Hokuto City, Yamanashi, by Eigashima Shuzo of Akashi, Hyogo. It opened its own vineyard in 1964 on sandy hillside at about 600 m elevation and, after trialling twelve European varieties, settled on Cabernet Franc, Semillon and Chardonnay. A cellar-door shop was added in 1984 and the Kaikomagatake Museum in 2000. Its vintage wines are aged five to six years in total before release.
