Nango Hinata Nouen Co., Ltd.

A farm in the Nango district of Hachinohe, Aomori, growing wine grapes and selling wine under its own label. Its stated business is wine sales and wine-grape growing; the wine itself is made under contract by Edelwein in Ohasama, Hanamaki (Iwate), Iwate Kuzumaki Wine in Kuzumaki (Iwate), and WANO Winery in Tsuruta (Aomori). The vineyards lie in a sunny upland area locally nicknamed 'hinata', which gave the company its name. The soil is acidic and free-draining on a slope beside a cliff; summers are cool under the yamase wind and winter winds off the mountains are strong enough that the vines are wrapped in straw against frost damage. The farm concentrates on high-sugar European varieties led by Zweigelt, along with Pinot Noir, Merlot, Chardonnay and Riesling, and releases several vintages including barrel-aged bottlings.
