A white-wine grape with Muscat fragrance and high sugar potential, usually making an aromatic wine with balanced acidity.
Mondo Brie is a white-wine grape bred by the Yamanashi Prefectural Fruit Tree Experiment Station from Chardonnay and Cayuga White. It was registered as a variety on 7 March 2016. The grapes can reach around 23 percent sugar, carry a Muscat-like aroma and ripen from late September to early October. Yamanashi reports downy-mildew resistance comparable to Cayuga White and good performance in trial plantings in Tohoku, indicating useful cold tolerance. The wines are richly aromatic and received strong evaluations in the prefecture's quality tastings.
Notes on aroma and taste describe general tendencies for this grape, not claims about any particular wine — the actual character depends on the producer and how it is made.
Statements of fact — origin, crossing, plant-variety registration and growing regions — have been checked against public bodies, research institutes, or the breeder (1 sources).
