About this region

Tokyo is a region where grapes are grown on farmland scattered among built-up areas. According to the Tokyo Metropolitan Consumer Affairs Center, roughly 45 hectares of vineyards are dotted around the metropolis, with Inagi, Chofu, Nerima, Mitaka and Kodaira named as growing areas (2017). In the National Tax Agency's count of production sites that produced or shipped wine during 2024, Tokyo had 8 wineries (519 nationwide). In Nerima Ward, the "Nerima Wine Project" makes wine solely from grapes raised from seedlings in fields within the ward, and the ward introduces Tokyo Winery as "Tokyo's first winery."
