These figures count the winery listings on this site. Every listing carries its own sources and verification date. Anything we could not verify is left out of the count, so the real numbers may be higher. A founding year may refer to the parent company — often a sake brewery — rather than the year winemaking began.

About this region

Chiba is a region where the number of producers has grown only recently. A research answer filed by the Chiba Prefectural Central Library in the National Diet Library's Collaborative Reference Database quotes a newspaper report that "until now the only winery in the prefecture was the long-established Saito Grape Farm in Yokoshibahikari, but three new wineries have appeared in the past two years," naming Funabashi, Yachimata and Tako. Yachimata City states that in March 2020 it was designated a national "wine special zone," a scheme that lowers the annual production required for a fruit-wine licence from the usual 6,000 litres to 2,000 litres, making it easier to start winemaking on a small scale.

Climate
We could not find an official document summarising the growing climate across the whole prefecture. At the local level, Yachimata City, in its explanation of its wine special zone, describes itself as "blessed with a mild climate throughout the year and a rich natural environment."
