Kujukuri Winery

A small winery growing grapes in the sea breeze of Kujukuri, Chiba, and making and selling its own wine. In 2020 it cleared about 5,000 square metres of abandoned farmland near Kujukuri Beach and planted vines, starting out with the concept of wines that suit seafood and seaside scenes. The company Office Stage Inc. was set up in 2023 and the winery building was completed in 2024. The sandy, well-drained and poor soil yields wines with light acidity and fruity flavour, and some vines are grown on their own roots. Grapes are grown with cover crops and no herbicide, prunings are turned into charcoal and returned to the soil, crushing is done by foot, and pressing uses a 'kirin' derrick of the kind that supported Kujukuri's sardine industry.
