An ancient muscat, known in Japan as Okayama's glasshouse table grape and also made into perfumed white wine.

An ancient muscat grown around the eastern Mediterranean and North Africa, named after Alexandria in Egypt. It reached Japan in the Meiji period, and Okayama developed glasshouse cultivation to keep the fruit clear of the country's heavy rain. Districts such as Funao in Kurashiki remain a major source of premium table grapes, and wine is made from that same fruit. The unmistakable muscat perfume carries straight through, so even dry versions smell sweet. Among the wineries listed here it centres on Okayama, with further producers in Hiroshima, Yamaguchi and Fukuoka.
