Domaine Chichibu (Chichibu Wine)

If you are driving, please do not taste. Japan has a zero-tolerance drink-driving law.
Winery tours with tasting must be booked in advance and are accepted for groups of five or more, lasting about 40-90 minutes. Tasting options range from a free plastic-cup tasting to paid courses: 500 yen for glass tasting in the normally closed cellar, 1,000 yen with crackers and cheese, and from 1,500 yen with a cheese platter from Yamanami Cheese Factory. Free parking for about 20 cars, coaches welcome.
Saitama's oldest winery, in Ogano. Trial winemaking began in 1938 and a production licence followed in 1940. It makes wines from Chichibu-grown fruit including its own vineyards.
