These figures count the winery listings on this site. Every listing carries its own sources and verification date. Anything we could not verify is left out of the count, so the real numbers may be higher. A founding year may refer to the parent company — often a sake brewery — rather than the year winemaking began.

About this region

Winemaking in Nagasaki began in earnest when the prefecture's first winery opened on Fukue Island in the Goto archipelago. Official tourism sources say it works with grapes grown on Goto together with other Japanese fruit, turning Campbell Early, Niagara, Muscat Bailey A and other varieties into sparkling, rose, white and red wines. Planting started with a hundred vines and reached its tenth year in 2024; annual output is given as around 14,000 bottles. One rose is made with yeast taken from the islands' camellias.

Climate
Goto City describes the archipelago as strongly influenced by the warm Tsushima Current, giving a maritime climate (the Saikai climatic zone) with mild winters and relatively cool summers. Average annual temperature is given as 17C and annual rainfall as 1,863.0 mm. The western shore of Fukue Island is lined with sea cliffs cut by the rough East China Sea, and Fukue and Saga islands carry clusters of volcanic landforms including scoria cones and shield volcanoes.
