Producers found nationwide, and producers found close to home

Data / Published 2026-08-27

Following listed shops shows where a producer’s wine may be found. This table is not a count of stock across Japan. It collects only relationships published by producers and supported by a verifiable source. Use it as a starting point for a search, while keeping the meaning and limits of the figures separate.

Verified producer–shop relationships The table counts relationships with shops that could be verified on a producer’s shop-list page or similar source. A shop is not included merely because its name appeared in search results. A shop outside the table may still exist; shops mentioned by phone or in person, or not yet publicly listed, will not appear here.

Of 660 listed producers, 282 have at least one confirmed stockist. **A high count means the producer publishes a stockist list, not necessarily that it makes more wine.** Producers selling only direct or online will not appear here even though their wine is easy to buy.

Producers from Hokkaido and Nagano stand out near the top. VinVie, Arkanvigne, and Shinshu Takayama Winery in Nagano, along with Hirakawa Winery and Mongakudani Winery in Hokkaido, appear as producers connected to shops across a broad area. A producer lower in the table is not necessarily selling only locally. Its relationships may simply be harder to verify because no public shop list is available.

The table separates the number of shops from the number of prefectures in which those shops are found. A large shop count can be concentrated in a small area, while a smaller count can extend one shop at a time across several prefectures. Keeping these columns separate helps distinguish a locally concentrated network from one that reaches distant regions.

Do not read the count as distribution volume A larger listed-shop count does not prove greater distribution, deeper stock, or nationwide availability. It shows only that more published relationships could be verified. The visible pattern also changes with the wines offered, selling seasons, business partners, and page updates. Many producers with no verified shop relationship may still be readily available at a tasting room or official online store.

Conversely, a listed shop may not have the bottle you want on the day you visit. Wines may be discontinued, rotated seasonally, sold out, or stocked differently by each shop. Do not treat absence from the table as proof of absence; continue to the producer’s purchase guidance and the shop’s latest information.

Being findable when someone is looking Our reading: Publishing a shop list gives a producer a way to be found when someone is searching. This is not a ranking of sales strength; it is a difference in the routes available to information. Two producers may sell in similar ways while appearing very differently to a person trying to find them.

Before buying, check the shop’s own notice or call about the wine, opening hours, closing days, and sales method. Do not infer a shop’s address from the producer’s prefecture or region; follow the individual source. The table is not a definitive national inventory, but a map for finding the next place to ask.
