A white-wine grape combining Koshu's adaptability with Pinot Blanc, usually making a fruity wine with firm acidity.
Kai Blanc is a white-wine grape bred by the Yamanashi Prefectural Fruit Tree Experiment Station from Koshu and Pinot Blanc. It was named and registered as Grape Norin No. 9 in 1991, then formally registered as a variety in 1992. The fruit reaches good sugar levels and retains moderate acidity, while the berries themselves have little pronounced aroma or astringency. A prefectural trial found that pergola training gave higher yields without reducing wine quality compared with vertical trellising. The resulting wines are typically fruity and marked by firm acidity.
Notes on aroma and taste describe general tendencies for this grape, not claims about any particular wine — the actual character depends on the producer and how it is made.
Statements of fact — origin, crossing, plant-variety registration and growing regions — have been checked against public bodies, research institutes, or the breeder (1 sources).
