Accumulating third-party results The table accumulates records from competition results published by organizers, keeping only cases where the relationship between producer and wine could be confirmed. The editorial team did not assign points to producers or wines. Normalizing names does not turn an original result into a different evaluation.

The count is the total number of times a third party’s evaluation could be confirmed. It is not a quality ranking, sales measure, or measure of producer size. Competitions differ in scope, entry systems, award categories, and publication practices. The upper part includes producers such as Château Mercian, Hokkaido Wine, and Takahata Winery, whose results can be followed across several competitions and over a long period. That also reflects continued participation in evaluation settings.

Separate competition breadth from the count Three in the competition column means that records were confirmed in several different competitions. A producer represented in only one competition may have many records there, but the table does not imply results in other competitions. Mars Yamanashi Winery illustrates a large record built in one competition, while Asahimachi Wine and Takahata Winery illustrate records extending across several. The same award count can therefore describe different histories.

A producer that does not enter competitions appears with no awards, but that does not indicate lower quality. Fees, entry policy, sales territory, scale, and the quantity available for entry all matter. Results whose producer or winery cannot be identified are also excluded for safety. Zero is a state of the verified dataset, not a quality judgment.

Read the period column A long period means that a producer has continued to enter over a long span. A producer with records beginning in 2003 and one with records beginning after 2004 cannot be compared over the same length of time. A long period is evidence of continuity in the record, but it does not prove equal production every year or that the same wine is still sold. Check the producer’s official information for current wines and sales.

Our reading: The upper part overlaps with larger producers that have continued entering and have placed several products in published results. It is not a measure of small-producer quality. For a record that interests you, follow the competition, year, wine, producer, and official result in that order.
