A white-wine grape with lifted aromas and fruit, usually making a fresh wine with balanced acidity and body.

San Semillon is a white-wine grape bred by the Yamanashi Prefectural Fruit Tree Experiment Station from Fuefuki, a Yamanashi selection, and Semillon (Gros Semillon). It was named Grape Norin No. 20 in 2000 and formally registered as a variety in 2002. The grapes reach high sugar levels and ripen from late August to early September at the breeding site, with berries that are relatively large for a wine grape. Yamanashi describes the wines as fragrant, fruity and well balanced, with good breadth. A prefectural trial also found that pergola training produced higher yields while maintaining or slightly improving wine quality.

Notes on aroma and taste describe general tendencies for this grape, not claims about any particular wine — the actual character depends on the producer and how it is made.

Statements of fact — origin, crossing, plant-variety registration and growing regions — have been checked against public bodies, research institutes, or the breeder (1 sources).
