What counts as walkable

This guide includes wineries whose published access notes say that they are within the site’s walking-distance threshold from a station. We do not infer the distance from an address or calculate a straight-line route on a map. The walking time and station shown in the table are read from the access information published by the producer.

A station name in an access note does not always mean that the walk begins at the station. Some bus stops include a station name, such as a stop named for the station entrance. To avoid treating a bus ride followed by a walk as a station walk, we exclude notes that place a bus or stop between the station and the walking instruction. Only statements whose actual starting point is the station are kept.

Read the table as a lower bound

The table contains producers for which an access note is available and the walking condition can be checked. Producers without an access description, or whose route from the station cannot be determined, cannot be counted. Their absence from the table therefore does not mean they are unreachable on foot; the information may simply not have been verified.

Before visiting, check the producer’s page for the station, walking time, route, opening days, and conditions for tours or tastings. A published walking time can feel different depending on the entrance, hills, crossings, or the season. A winery close to a station may still not accept visitors, so access and visitor reception must be checked separately.

Separate tasting from driving

Our reading: Looking for wineries that can be reached without a car is useful not only for planning a visit or tasting, but also for planning a trip that avoids drink-driving. Japan’s National Police Agency explains the risks of drink-driving and promotes the “designated driver” practice, in which one person does not drink and drives the group home. The site’s position is simple: the person driving should not taste, and if everyone plans to drink, use public transport or another way to travel.

Being walkable from a station is only one condition for a visit. Use the table to find candidates, then check the source and last-confirmed date on the individual producer page, and confirm opening conditions and tasting availability through the producer’s official information before leaving.
